Play for Everyone: Inclusive Design Across Every Age & Ability

Play belongs to every child. How can we design spaces that make this possible?

On 15 October, we brought clients and partners together for ‘Designing Play for Every Child’ – an evening exploring how thoughtful design can make play more inclusive.

With insights from SG Enable, STUCK Design and Lappset, we exchanged ideas and got hands-on with the Vilja play tower.

Why does play matter?

Lappset’s Asia Head of Sales, Leon Tan explored its importance in children’s lives and why different needs should be considered from the start of playground design.

Who are we designing for and who might we be leaving out?

An evening to consider the different ways children move, interact and experience the world. Beyond entering a space, how can people feel comfortable using it and joining in? We heard firsthand from Tze Lee about the launch of ‘The Design Playbook for Inclusive Spaces’ that offered thinking about inclusion into the designing of play spaces.

Different routes, challenges and ways to play.

Leon introduced Lappset’s PRIME series and its approach to creating play experiences with inclusion built in from the outset – even earning a Red Dot Design Award! Research, the hands-on way! Our team took a turn on the slide – a reminder of the simple joy that makes play worth designing for.

Making play more inclusive takes a collective effort.

Thank you to the clients and industry partners who joined us to explore the role each of us can play.
